Honda WSP53 1/2 HP Top-Discharge Submersible Pump, 70 GPM The WSP53 is a heavier-duty step up from the WSP33, with a 1/2 hp motor, a stainless steel impeller and tandem mechanical seals. It pumps up to 70 gallons per minute and lifts water up to 44 feet, which makes it suitable for draining basements, cisterns, ponds and window wells where the water has to travel some height to get out. Tandem Seals for Long Life A submersible pump’s weak point is the seal between motor and water. The WSP53 uses two mechanical seals in tandem, carbon and ceramic above and silicon carbide below, and Honda says the oil-lubricated double seals prevent damage if the pump runs dry. Shielded ball bearings at top and bottom add durability. Automatic Operation A non-mercury mechanical float switch turns the pump on and off with the water level, and a built-in thermal switch protects the motor and resets itself once it cools. It is rated for continuous duty and works fully or partially submerged. WSP53 Data Motor 1/2 hp, 115 V; 36 A starting, 9 A running Flow 70 gal/min; maximum head 44 ft; maximum pressure 19 psi Top discharge, 1.5 in FNPT Impeller: stainless steel; solids to 0.375 in Cord 50 ft; diameter 8.3 in; weight 27 lb Warranty: 1 year residential, 1 year commercial Starting Current At start-up the WSP53 briefly draws 36 amps. When running it from a generator, choose one with enough surge capacity, and keep other large loads off the circuit while the pump starts. WSP53 or WSP73? The WSP73 shares this body with a 3/4 hp motor and 54 feet of head for deeper lifts. The WSP33 is lighter for occasional clean-water jobs.
