Umbilicus rupestris - Wall Pennywort

A evergreen perennial from western and southern Europe where it is often found growing on stone walls, this plant is part of the Stonecrop family with leaves are deep green and are quite fleshy. Many of its common names and indeed it genus name refer to shape of the leaves, which are round and have a central depression like a belly button. They grow in rosettes and have slightly scalloped edges. The leaves may turn reddish if they are in strong sunlight which is best avoided, should be positioned in a southern shaded position.
