Tulip side table by Eero Saarinen for Knoll

This Tulip side table was designed by Eero Saarinen as part of his famous Pedestal Collection for Knoll. Introduced in 1958, the collection saw Saarinen develop a new form of table base, replacing the traditional four legs with a single, fluidly shaped pedestal. The resulting silhouette is now one of the best-known designs of Mid-Century modernism. This example combines the distinctive white tulip base with a round top in Calacatta marble . The Italian marble’s subtle, warm veining creates an appealing contrast with the clean lines of the base, lending the table a particularly elegant appearance and making it a versatile companion beside a sofa or armchair. This example dates from the 1970s, was made in Italy for Knoll, and bears the original Knoll “Made in Italy” labels on the underside.
