Peek-a-boo, Edie Harper style. In Peepkin, a wide-eyed cat peers out from behind a plump orange pumpkin, its striped body nearly disappearing into the curves and vertical lines of its hiding place. Edie McKee Harper’s playful geometry and love of cats come together in a design that feels especially at home in autumn—but has enough personality for year-round display. Harper captured the joke in a poem accompanying the original artwork: Peter, Peter, pumpkin eater. No, no, not Peter; not eater, either. It’s Peeper, Peeper, pumpkin peeper. Hide behind a pumpkin shell, and there you’re hidden very well. Like many works from the Charley Harper Art Studio, Peepkin was originally released as a hand-screened serigraph, with each color printed separately through its own screen.
