The title references Tonantzin, a revered maternal figure whose name translates to “Our Sacred Mother” in Nahuatl. Long associated with nourishment, protection, and the enduring connection between humanity and the natural world, Tonantzin remains one of the most important symbolic figures in Mexican cultural history. In this work, Diske Uno combines vivid color and symbolic imagery to create a contemporary interpretation of motherhood, ancestry, and the relationship between people, animals, and nature.
