Upcycle your clothing! Dye your Yarn! Don't let go of your favorite worn clothes; love them again! The goal of this workshop is to learn the method of natural dyeing for your everyday sustainable living. For our 7th annual Earth Color Dye Lab, we will open our dye basins with vibrant Bengala Mud Dye, plus Aijozome Indigo! We will provide instructions on creating stunning Japanese Shibori (tie-dye and clamp-resist) patterns. Rather than following a rigid plan, this hands-on experience embraces the natural flow of colors over time and the beauty of coincidental patterns. Bengala Mud Dye is one of the oldest natural pigments on Earth– completely non-toxic, eco-friendly and incredibly easy to use. This workshop is perfect for beginners, individuals and families to enjoy together. Items to Dye: We recommend taking this opportunity to upcycle your old fabrics and clothes, but if you don't have any materials to bring, no worries! We have a wide selection of dyeable items available for purchase at the studio, including new t-shirts, kitchen cloths, bandanas, thread, hats, bags, etc. Items purchased at the studio include the dyeing fee. Some synthetic fabrics may not take natural pigments well. We highly recommend bringing 100% natural fibers (cotton, linen, silk, wool). Please check with us in advance or bring extra materials just in case. Additional Fees (paid at studio): For materials brought from home, a dye fee will be charged based on weight: $3 per ounce of dry fabric or yarn. Estimated weights and dye costs: 3oz bandana ($9), 5oz adult t-shirt ($15).
