TUESDAY, JUNE 30, 6:30pm - 8:30pm PT This is an in-person workshop at CfM Art Room: 4035 Judah St, San Francisco, next door to our shop! Botanical illustration has a long and storied history, but it often seems inaccessible, since it's so often framed in terms of accuracy or fidelity. But we've been illustrating our relationship to our environment for as long as we've been human (or arguably even before that) – and for most of that time, it wasn't about technical perfection. This course focuses on drawing and painting as a way to connect with the plants, stones, and other subjects around us, using pen drawing and watercolor to spend some quality time with these non-human characters. MATERIALS NEEDED These are the supplies you'll need to bring for class—feel free to supplement this list with other options you love or have on hand! Pencil (hard or soft) for sketching Sketching eraser, preferably "art gum" kind Micron pen(s) or similar waterproof drawing pens, at least one small size (003, 005 or 01) and one larger (03/05/08), plus any others you want to work with Watercolor paints – We recommend a mix of warm/cool/earth tones and a few brights or neons if you have them Watercolor paper – A pad or block of cold press paper, or individual sheets (8"x10" recommended, but any approximate size will do!) ABOUT INSTRUCTOR Sam is an artist, designer, and technologist based in San Francisco. He combines digital and traditional craft practices to create compelling and focused projects. He works in all kinds of media, always prioritizing how these disparate methods can come together elegantly to elicit a meaningful, emotionally rich experience. His work deals with empathy, mythology, and the intricacies of our human perception. www.samgalison.com THINGS TO KNOW If you need to cancel, please let us know as soon as possible so we can open up your spot!
