If you take a look at history, the people banning and burning books are never, ever the good guys. I was going for a kind of 90s vintage Ad Council look, something fellow Millennials might recognize from the bulletin board of their Social Studies classroom. You know—the place where they made us recite phrases like "we the people" and "all [people] are created equal" and "liberty and justice for all", but now they're apparently mad that we actually took those things seriously. I chose the rainbow theme in recognition of the fact that all those videos you see of Nazis burning books, the books they're burning are largely the research library from Magnus Hirschfeld's Institut für Sexualwissenschaft (sexual research institute), which had been at the forefront of research on queer and especially trans identities. The Opernplatz book burnings set research on human sexuality and gender back the better part of a century. My model stitch is shown stitched over 2 strands on custom dyed 32ct Monaco, for an effective stitch density of 16 stitches per inch, displayed in a 6" embroidery hoop using my StitchSnap Finishing Kit, with quilt batting added for a pillow effect. (StitchSnap Finishing Kits coming soon) You will also get a version that says "ban the fascists" instead in case ya gotta, like, hang it up at work or something.
