Create Your Own Soap Class, Saturday, May 30th, 11am

Join us at Olio Skin & Beard Co. inside The Neighborhood Hive located at 2065 E 2100 S, SLC for a create your own soap making workshop! Saturday, May 30th at 11am. This class is in partnership with Waste Less Solutions and we will be using rescued fruits and veggies, juicing them on the spot and soaping with that liquid. Truly a unique experience! 35% gets donated back to Waste Less Solutions, now this is a powerful collaboration! During this workshop you will be given the instructions, use of tools and ingredients to make 1.5 of your own batch of soap to take home to use, or gift. Minimum age requirement is 15 years old. 🧼 Workshop Title: "Create Your Own: DIY Soap-Making Experience with Wasteless Solutions" 📅 Event Overview Duration: 1 to 1.5 hours Audience: Adults or teens (15+), beginner-friendly 🧪 Goals of the Workshop Teach the basics of cold process soap making. Introduce Wasteless Solutions and listen to their goals Explain saponification and safety protocols 📝 Workshop Agenda 1. Welcome & Safety Briefing (15 mins) Hand out gloves, goggles Go over lye safety and workspace rules 2. Intro to Soap Making & Saponification (20 mins) Brief talk on: What is saponification? (fat + lye → soap + glycerin) Basic chemistry behind it Types of oils and their properties Lye handling and measuring 3. Demonstration (20 mins) Facilitator performs the first batch Show each step from oil blending to trace and pouring 4. Hands-On Soap Making (40 mins) Participants: Choose a soap mold: round or square Mix oils, add lye solution (pre-measured for safety) Blend to trace Pour into molds 5. Labeling & Wrap-Up (15 mins) Label their soap molds with dates and ingredients Discuss curing time (4–6 weeks) Take-home info sheets: curing tips, safety, recipes This class will include all materials and ingredients to make 1.5lbs of CP soap (4 normal size bars) using Olio's Soap Recipe. You will be leaving class with the soap you created to cure for 30 days and then use or share. Cancellation policy: Please give 2 days notice for any cancellations. No refunds.
