Attacus lorquinii

A striking Saturniid native to the Philippines and nearby regions. Closely related to the well-known Attacus atlas, this species is admired for its large wingspan, rich reddish-brown coloration, and unique translucent windows. It is prized by collectors and breeders for its beauty and relative ease of care. These moths are hardy, fast-growing, and well suited for display, breeding, and educational purposes. Environment: Spacious mesh cage or well-ventilated enclosure for adults. Provide sturdy, fresh-cut host plant branches in water or container setups for larvae. Humidity: Moderate to high. Light misting is recommended, but ensure good airflow to prevent mold around pupation sites. Diet (larvae): Feeds on a wide range of host plants, including Liquidambar (sweetgum), Ligustrum (privet), Persea americana (avocado), Citrus, Prunus, Salix,.. Behavior: Larvae are solitary, large, and voracious feeders. Pupation occurs in large papery cocoons attached to branches or hidden among leaves. Adults are short-lived, do not feed, and display their impressive wingspan primarily for reproduction. Temperature: 22–28 °C is ideal. Slightly cooler conditions may slow growth, while higher temperatures can shorten the life cycle.
