SHV Registration Number Kit — Paraglider & Hang Glider Compliance Numbers
Pilots flying in Switzerland and France are required by law to display a registration number on the underside of their aircraft. In Switzerland, the number is a five-digit SHV number; in France it is issued by the DGAC and contains a mix of letters and numbers. In both countries, the characters must be at least 40cm high and clearly legible. Failure to comply can result in fines and legal consequences — particularly in the event of an accident. Our segment kit makes compliance straightforward wherever you fly. Why the Right Material Matters Standard vinyl stickers are not suitable for paraglider or hang glider canopy fabric. Our segments are produced on self-adhesive Dacron — a pressure-sensitive fabric material specifically compatible with the woven materials used in paraglider and hang glider wings. It moves with the canopy, resists UV and wind, and bonds permanently when applied correctly. DIY Segment Kit Each character of your registration number is formed from individual segments — exactly as shown in the official SHV guidance and used across the paramotor community. We supply individual 25cm × 5cm self-adhesive Dacron segments which you arrange and apply yourself to build each digit or letter on the underside of your canopy. Segments are sold individually at £1.50 each. Order exactly the quantity you need using the tables below. Minimum order 10 segments. Count the segments required for each character in your registration using the tables, then add them up. Application Instructions This is a pressure-sensitive adhesive material — correct application is essential for a lasting bond. Clean thoroughly — remove all salt, dust, oils, and sun cream residue. The surface must be completely dry before application. Position your segments — arrange each character on the canopy before peeling to confirm spacing and layout. Apply with firm, even pressure — press each segment down firmly to activate the adhesive and bond it to the canopy fabric. Allow curing time — minimum 24 hours before flying, ideally 48. Optional warmth — gentle heat can help further activate the adhesive in colder conditions. Getting Your Registration Number Switzerland (SHV): Apply free of charge via the SHV website regardless of where you live. Note: pilots with a registered German registration number (D-NXXX) do not require a separate SHV number — it is valid in Switzerland provided it meets the 40cm size requirement. France (DGAC): Register your wing via the DGAC website. Once your papers are processed you will be issued a number and letter combination to affix to the wing.
