Totally unique, totally historic, and totally awesome! The Gallagher Shelby line of guitars does some new things while paying homage to the companies lineage and history. And all the while maintaining the quality, craftsmanship, and incredible tone and playability we’ve come to expect from Gallagher Guitars at an incredible price point! The history of the Shelby line goes way back to the early 60’s when JW Gallagher (then a skilled furniture maker) was approached by Slingerland (makers of Maybell Banjos among other things) about designing and building a new line of catalogue guitars in Shelbyville TN, hence the “Shelby” guitars were born. This served as a springboard for Mr. Gallaghers passion to build the highest quality guitars he could, which later became “Gallagher Guitars”. And thus this is an important part of Gallaghers roots. So the team at Gallagher wanted to homage to the spirit of those early guitars, while making improvements and keeping the quality high and up to their standards. The results speak for themselves. These guitars are rich, warm, resonant, and have an enormous amount of power. All the while having their own unique tonal fingerprint. And then you price them right around or under the $3,000 price point…for an all American hand made guitar that sounds and plays this good, it’s one of the best values on the market currently. Definitely worth a look! This particular body style is great for folky styles, and especially fingerpicking, while still being versatile enough to tackle any acoustic guitar role! One difference in the Shelby line is that they use A and AA woods rather than 3A and 4A wood choices. This can result in some visual characteristics in the wood that miss the mark for 3A and 4A but doesn’t take anything away from the tonal qualities. In fact, these visual characteristics are now often cherished as "character" in the wood. Gallagher builds and voices these guitars out of the same shop and with the same crew as all of the other models. Appointments are simpler but the quality of the build is the same.
