This Atlantic salmon originates from the heritage St. John River strain of Maine and is sustainably raised in Recirculating Closed Aquaculture Systems rather than controversial open-ocean pens that pose ecological risks. Raised in Maine. Smoked in Maine. Tinned in Oregon with a touch of California olive oil. Ready to enjoy — true American Atlantic salmon, crafted for effortless, anywhere enjoyment. Well, anywhere there’s a can opener, as these cans require one. When our friend Keper from Gulf of Maine Conservas first told us about this product we were immediately interested. After sampling it, we bought every tin available. This will sell out. The backstory is that the folks growing the salmon are producing so well that they’re looking at adding markets for their product. They didn’t have any experience with smoking or canning so they reached out to Keper to see if he could provide any help. While the product is outside of the Gulf of Maine Conservas charter, and doesn’t bear the Gulf of Maine Conservas name, it is produced using the same top-notch processing steps. There are currently no plans to do additional runs, as this was essentially an experiment to determine viability. A super-delicious experiment that we know you’ll love.
