Persian Senneh Kilim Rug
This is a brand new authentic Senneh Kilim rug, handmade in Iran. Unlike knotted pile rugs, kilims are woven using a weft-faced technique that creates a flat, reversible surface which is highly durable and lightweight. Persian rugs have always been associated with sophisticated and affluent households, with regal highly detailed floral designs such as Isfahan, Kashan and Tabriz rugs, however there are many nomadic people in Iran who weave simpler, tribal rugs, including Gabbeh, Hamadan and Qashqai rugs. The common motifs of Senneh rugs include: Herati (fish) pattern: a repeating diamond lattice filled with rosettes and leaves resembling fish, Boteh (paisley) design: teardrop-shaped motifs, precursors to the famous Persian paisley pattern, and central medallion layouts or all-over repeating fields. They use slit-tapestry weaving techniques, known for their geometric precision and vibrant patterns. These kilims are considered among the finest flat weaves in the world. Senneh carpets come from the Kurdish town of Sanandaj, western Iran. The Kurdish weavers of the region developed a distinct weaving technique and aesthetic that set their carpets apart from other Persian styles and the precision of the weave makes the patterns look almost embroidered. These rugs were the originators of the well known asymmetrical Persian (Senneh) knot
