The layout of this Map of Mirkwood centers on the southern part of the Rhovanion Wilderlands and the Sea of Rhun. The Woods of Lorien and northern tip of Fangorn Forest are also visible. Mirkwood was once known as Greenwood the Great, before it fell under a shadow during the Third Age. As darker forces took hold in the south, the forest grew denser and more dangerous, its reputation changing with it.
