First Strokes: A Beginner’s Watercolor Workshop

Discover the joy of watercolor in this hands-on, three-day workshop designed for beginners. Participants will explore the fundamental techniques of watercolor painting, including brush control, washes, layering, and creating tonal values. Through guided exercises, you will learn essential color concepts, as well as the basics of composition and perspective, while painting simple still-life arrangements and scenic studies. Each day builds progressively, giving you time to practice, experiment, and gain confidence in your approach. In a supportive studio environment, you’ll develop the skills to observe, mix, and apply color with intention, turning simple subjects into expressive paintings. By the end of the workshop, you’ll have a sound foundation in watercolor and the confidence to continue creating on your own. Workshop Date: Thursday June 11th - Saturday June 13th, 9.30 am - 4.30pm (lunch break: 12.30-1.30pm) Workshop Type: In-Studio Studio Address: 1729 North 2nd Street Suite 303, Minneapolis, MN 55411. There are plenty of free on-street parking around the studio building. Skill Level: Beginner, Early Intermediate. Workshop Supplies and Meals: Painting supplies list will be emailed to participants after they are registered. Participants are responsible for bringing their own lunch. Beverages and snacks will be provided. Cancellation Policy: Prior to May 12th: All cancellations will be subject to a $50 administration fee. A full refund (less $50 administration fee) will apply to cancellations by May 12th. After May 12th: If a cancellation is received after May 12th, and the space CAN be refilled, a full refund less the $50 administration fee will be refunded (Possible wait list for workshop or workshop participant can find replacement). If a cancellation is received after May 12th, and the space CANNOT be filled, 50% of the workshop fee will be refunded (less $50 administration fee). If the workshop has less than 10 students registered two weeks prior to the start of the workshop, the instructor reserves the right to cancel the workshop and a full refund will be awarded.
