About This Workshop The Slavic Coming of Age Rituals May Slavic Sunday workshop takes place over Zoom on May 3, 2026, at 5pm PT/6pm MT/7pm CT/8pm ET (recording sent to all who register). This workshop delves into the customs, rites of passage, and magical practices that guided young men and women in rural Ukrainian communities, emphasizing their connection to nature, community, and the spiritual world. More Info From initiation ceremonies to gender-specific roles and responsibilities, these traditions reflect a deep cultural understanding of growth, maturity, and the balance of freedom and responsibility. You’ll explore how these practices prepared youths for adult life, marriage, and their roles within the community, while also uncovering the magical elements woven into their daily lives. What You’ll Learn: Ancient Pagan Origins: The pagan roots of Ukrainian coming-of-age rituals, including initiation rites for boys and the symbolic preparation of dowries for girls. Community Rituals: The role of community gatherings like vechornytsi (evening gatherings) and dosvitky in fostering social bonds and romantic connections. Spells and Rites: Magical practices and superstitions used by youths, such as divination rituals to predict marriage and protective charms for personal safety. Gender Roles: The significance of gender roles, social expectations, and the transition from childhood to adulthood in traditional Ukrainian culture. This workshop is perfect for anyone interested in folklore, pagan traditions, or the rich cultural heritage of Ukraine. No prior experience is required, however a basic understanding of magical principles will be helpful. People of all spiritual paths and cultures are welcome.
