spoKe issue 12
PREORDER spoKe 12 The mission of spoKe is to advance a better vision of the world through poetry and poetics. Founded in response to the Boston Marathon bombing, we are strong to advance: A global poetry that engages with or is from the world’s places, cultures and literary traditions: past, present, and visions of futures. American poetry that sees the English language and literary tradition as core but one of many roots and paths for poetry. A poetics that attempts to innovate language, idiom, sensibility, and poetic form while maintaining a public presence. In the tradition of one of Boston’s greatest magazines, Cid Corman’s Origin, we go deeply into a few poets, regions, and cultures in each issue. In spoKe 11 we finally paid homage to Cid Corman himself with essays, letters and reflections that introduce and go deeper into the most unsung but influential Boston–bred poet of the 20th century. In spoKe 12, we continue our tradition of homage to our forebears, but this time we pay tribute to two of Boston’s greatest poets that have left us recently, and too soon, in Fanny Howe and Danielle Legros Georges. Both Fanny and Danielle were featured in the first spoKe and read at our first launch. In different ways, Boston poetry was knit around each of their networks. We are proud to exhibit the poetry of Nigeria, Wang Ping, KPrevalett, John Mulrooney, and more, more Amanda Cook, and beyond. Not letting up. —Kevin Gallagher spoKe issue 12 $20.00, paperback, 398 pp Language: English ISBN: 978-1-968422-16-5
