The Burns Night Set
Everything above the kilt for a Burns supper, in one order. A ghillie collar Highland shirt, a matching tartan cummerbund and bow tie, cream kilt hose, tartan flashes and a kilt pin. He supplies the kilt. This supplies the rest of the evening. Cummerbund or waistcoat, never both. The cummerbund covers the waistband where a jacket opens, and it is the correct choice when there is no waistcoat underneath. If he wears a waistcoat, leave the cummerbund in the box for the next event rather than layering the two. Pleats face upward. A cummerbund is worn with the folds opening toward the ceiling, which is the detail most people get wrong the first time. It sits over the top of the kilt waistband, not below it. Tartan flashes, not solid. Solid reads cleaner in daylight, but a Burns supper is formal and tartan is what belongs there, matched to the same sett as the cummerbund and bow tie. Cream hose for evening. Cream is the standard for formal wear and works with any sett, dark or light, which is why it is the only colour in this set. The shirt does two jobs. Laced at the collar with the bow tie it is black tie. Unlaced and open it is worn with jeans, which is why it does not sit in a wardrobe for eleven months of the year. Woven, not printed. Premium acrylic yarn woven to the sett you choose. Order by early January for Burns Night. Ready in 2 to 3 weeks, with rush production available when the date is fixed.
