Inscription on both sides: Darb Murtada Ahmadnagar / Fi Shuhur Sanah 101x (early 1600s CE). 18mm, 9.54 grams. Daulatabad mint. "The Coins of the Indian Sultanates" N31. Rare with a readable date. The Ahmadnagar Sultanate (1490–1636) was one of the five Deccan Sultanates, founded by Malik Ahmad Nizam Shah I following the decline of the Bahmani Sultanate. Ruled by the Nizam Shahi dynasty from Ahmadnagar, it controlled much of the western Deccan and frequently fought its neighbouring sultanates and the Mughal Empire. Despite determined resistance, notably under Chand Bibi, Ahmadnagar gradually lost territory to the Mughals and was finally annexed by Shah Jahan in 1636.
