Crystalline Quartz (Sunset wave) Toki Necklace - Large
Golden hues kissed with luminous white - New Zealand beach quartz at her absolute finest. Over millions of years, the wild coastline of South Westland has worked its magic, as iron-rich minerals gently transformed this quartz into flowing ribbons of warm amber, honey and golden orange. Each wave tells a story of time, tide and nature, creating a stone that can never be replicated. This variation has a silky texture and an incredible glow that catches the light from every angle. Hand-gathered by us from the remote South Westland coastline just two months ago, this is one of only a handful of pieces we were fortunate enough to find. The chemical composition of quartz is silicon dioxide (SiO2) – also known as silica. A distinctive feature of quartz is its hardness, which means that it polishes well and is not easily broken. The appearance of quartz is variable – it may be coloured or colourless; transparent, cloudy or opaque. The many varieties of quartz can be divided into two main groups: crystalline quartz and very fine-grained (or cryptocrystalline) quartz, which includes chalcedony, agate, chert, flint and jasper.
