Napal, a writer active since 1986, after founding the crew L.T.A — Licensed To Art together with Crash Kid, established the KIDZ SAN LORENZO in 1989 alongside Sumo. Both residents of the Roman neighborhood of San Lorenzo, they chose a name inseparably tied to their territory, turning the district into a marker of identity and culture. Much of the early street writing activity in Rome can be attributed to them, as they imposed a direct, essential, and highly impactful style, shaped by the spontaneous and illegal nature of their interventions. A visual language stripped down to the basics — minimal means, maximum effectiveness — defining an authentic and recognizable aesthetic. In a short time, San Lorenzo became the cradle of the Roman street style: continuous experimentation, deep urban roots, and a combative attitude transformed the neighborhood’s walls into an open-air creative training ground and a reference point for an entire generation of writers. Over the years, the crew expanded with the addition of Grey, Brus, and Jago, extending their vision and trajectory beyond the neighborhood and onto the national and international scene. The name, however, remains inseparably linked to San Lorenzo: a symbol of identity that speaks of belonging, the street, and history.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_custom_heading text=”The birth of the street culture in Italy and his pioneers” use_theme_fonts=”yes”][vc_column_text css=””]This collection of images takes shape as an archive of urban memory: through illegal writing, the photographs document the transformation of the neighborhood over time, revealing signs, layers, and social, aesthetic, and cultural changes. They are visual traces of a time and an energy that are difficult to replicate — direct testimonies of an era when the street was, above all, a space for expression and conquest. **Marcello “NAPAL” Saolini** A pioneer of Italian writing, he has been painting on the streets since 1986. Art Director, photographer, editorial illustrator, video maker, urban artist, and all-around creative, his works are held in museums and foundations.
