R15s: more area than the R12s without moving into 18-inch territory The R15s uses the same 1000 W amplifier as the R12s, but combines it with a 380 mm woofer for a broader, more physical presentation. It is intended for medium-to-large rooms and listeners playing cinema or electronic music at sustained levels. The advantage is not a higher wattage figure: it comes from greater cone area producing output with less relative excursion. In return, the enclosure needs more space and considered placement. The R15s operates with greater ease through dense passages and can be more convincing as listening distance grows. The R12s remains easier to place and often better balanced in medium rooms; the 15-inch model makes sense only where room and output requirements exploit its advantage. Why it does not have more watts Motor and diaphragm are sized as a system, not selected in isolation. The 1000 W amplifier drives a larger cone with different mechanical properties, prioritising displacement and reduced relative effort. Automatically seeking more power would mislead: excursion, efficiency, sealed volume and thermal control during sustained use all matter. No certification as a range decision The R15s and R18s are the only conventional R models without stated THX certification. They target systems sized around the actual room and desired result rather than a certification requirement. For a design formally requiring THX Ultra or Dominus, the push-pull R210s and R212s provide a more defined route. DSP for adaptation, not every cure The R platform's 32/48-bit processing, PEQ, phase, RCA/XLR, app, display and trigger refine crossover and response. The primary task remains finding a position without deep cancellations. The R15s rewards measured calibration: the large woofer should support the loudspeakers, not draw attention to one point in the room.
