Bay Colony Antiques is proud to offer for sale this fantastic late 19th century / early 20th century antique Victorian Tiger Oak Danner bookcase. There were a lot of companies making elastic barrister bookcases like these at the turn of the 20th century like Globe Wernicke, Macy, Larkin, Lundstrom, Viking, etc.. With all due respect to the other companies, Danner & Globe Wernicke have always been our favorite and in our opinion the best. The John Danner Manufacturing Company was founded in 1874 in Canton, Ohio and held patents on a wide array of products from revolving bookcases, specialized book rests and stands, & elastic barrister bookcases like this one. This example was crafted from a premium grade of Quartersawn Oak. The bookcase is comprised of three sections: the lower section with the molded baseboard, the middle section, and a molded top section. Each cabinet section has sliding glass doors that actuate with ease and a split configuration with a shelf on each side that can easily be adjusted in height by moving the shelf pins. The cabinet sections are quite large making this a perfect bookcase to house taller books like an encyclopedia or medical set. The bookcase is in very good condition with our only notes being minor surface wear and some small pieces of bead molding on the sides missing which we’ll have our restorer replace. The bookcase measures 37” wide x 15 1/2” deep x 56” tall. With the split interior, each of the four sections of the bookcase have usable dimensions of 17 1/4” wide x 11” deep x 22 1/2” tall.
