Cantina Orsogna Vola Volé Maiella National Park – Pinot Grigio
This is Pinot Grigio, but not as you may know it. Vola Volé Maiella National Park is Cantina Orsogna’s bee-inspired range, made by a cooperative of organic growers in the foothills of the Maiella mountains in Abruzzo. The grape isn’t a true white: when ripe its skin turns a greyish-red or copper, and this wine takes its colour from that. It’s a more characterful take on a familiar grape. The wine is certified organic and Biodiversity Friend, and it’s fermented using the natural biodiversity of the Maiella. The vineyards are managed so that bees and other pollinators can thrive, away from pesticides and herbicides, and that care for the land runs through every bottle. It’s a fresh, approachable and distinctive white that’s great for newcomers and Pinot Grigio fans looking for something with a bit more personality. Serve it well chilled.
