Antique French 1911 “Lully” Music Biography by Lionel de la Laurencie

A beautiful antique French volume from the Les Maîtres de la Musique (“The Masters of Music”) series, this book is Lully by French musicologist Lionel de la Laurencie. Published in Paris in 1911, this volume explores the life, music, and work of composer Jean-Baptiste Lully, one of the most important figures in French Baroque music and court composer to Louis XIV. Each book in this collection features a different cloth binding. At that time, books were sold as simple paperbacks and the owners would choose custom cloth covers for their books at local bookbinding shops. These unique covers are part of the decorative appeal of these early French volumes. Please note the cloth cover shows visible wear and fraying along the front edge and lower portion of the cover, along with fading and discoloration along the spine due to sun exposure.
