Vintage 24kt Gold Sculptural Pendant, by Niessing

A (rare!) vintage Niessing pendant made of 24kt gold and features softly layered, concentric folds which resemble coiled metal, ripples in water, or even a topographical shape. Its irregular circular form has a natural, hand-crafted appearance, and the deep color of the high-karat gold gives the item great depth! Niessing was founded in Germany in 1873 and gained a reputation for a clearly modern design approach based on Bauhaus principles such as the clarity of form, restraint, and a concentration on the material. In its later work it dealt with circles, lines, planes, folds and sculptural volume, frequently simplifying the jewelery to pure form instead of using decoration. This style is clearly visible in the piece: rather than using gemstones or any ornamental details, it concentrates completely on form, texture, and the intense yellow color typical of pure gold. The way the overlapping folds reflect the light varies depending on the angle, which gives the pendant a remarkable feeling of movement.
