From the 1930s to the late 1960s, direct and sulfur dyes were primarily used for sweatshirts. The principle behind vintage clothing fading is thought to be the oxidative bonding of atmospheric oxygen with the amino acids holding the dye, leading to hydrolysis, which turns them into carbon and causes decay. REMI RELIEF's SP processing recreates this natural principle, using traditional direct dyes combined with oxygen to slowly fade the dye over a long period. Although the garment takes some damage, unlike processes that involve chemicals or bio-treatment to forcibly melt the fabric, this process creates an atmosphere closest to the natural aging damage of vintage clothing.
