Fumidai In Japan, a fumidai is a step — a small platform built for one purpose: to lift you higher than you could reach alone. The word carries further, too — a stepping stone, a means toward something greater. Two tapered legs, monolithic and load-bearing, rise from the same demolition rubble as WAYST Pendant 01 — terrazzo dense with reclaimed brick, raw at the edges, polished where the hand meets it. The top sits above in deep, glossed black, set with offcut inlays salvaged from the casting itself. Nothing is decorative; everything is structural, including the waste. Each Fumidai is cast and finished by hand in our Howick studio. Variations in aggregate, colour and surface are a natural part of the process — no two are the same.
