Origin Coffee Roasting - Uganda Bulaago Natural

Origin Coffee Roasting has released a new African single-origin coffee. While Ethiopia and Kenya are more widely associated with specialty coffee, Uganda has become an increasingly notable origin in recent years. We’ve featured an Origin lot from the Bulaago washing station before as a washed coffee, but this time we get to try a naturally processed version. This coffee was sourced from farms bordering Mt. Elgon National Park and was processed at Bulaago, the Zukuka Bora Coffee Company’s largest site. Known as one of Uganda's premier processing mills, the site consistently delivers some of Zukuka Bora’s standout lots. This natural process coffee is composed of SL28 and SL34 varieties, made famous in Kenya, that have now gained widespread popularity across Africa, as well as South America. Read more about this coffee in Origin’s notes below. Origin’s notes “Bulaago Natural is a specialty Arabica coffee produced by smallholder farmers in the Bulaago community on Mount Elgon. The cherries are naturally processed, meaning they are dried whole before the coffee is hulled, allowing the fruit to contribute sweetness and complexity to the cup. “This lot has a bright, fruit-driven profile of lemon and strawberry balanced by milk chocolate.” Flavours: Lemon, strawberry, milk chocolate, almond & molasses Body: Creamy Acidity: Citrus-like Roast: Medium Brewing: AeroPress, siphon, Chemex, V60, espresso and milk-based drinks Coffee details from Origin “Bulaago lies on the slopes of Mount Elgon in Eastern Uganda, an important high-altitude Arabica-growing region. Coffees from this area benefit from elevations of around 1,900–2,100 metres, volcanic soils and a cool mountain climate. “Bulaago's coffee is produced by smallholder farmers and sourced through Zukuka Bora Coffee Company, whose work in the region also supports community development initiatives.” Country: Uganda Region: Mt.
