Fig - Brown Turkey

Brown Turkey is one of the most popular and dependable figs you can grow in New Zealand, and for good reason. It's a heavy, reliable cropper of medium to large, pear-shaped figs with bronze to purplish-brown skin and sweet, honey-flavoured amber-pink flesh - great eaten fresh off the tree, roasted, or made into jam.In good conditions it gives you two harvests: a light breba crop in early summer, followed by the main crop from late summer into autumn. It's self-fertile, so a single tree will fruit on its own with no pollination partner needed.Brown Turkey is one of the hardier fig varieties, coping with cooler winters, coastal exposure and dry spells better than most. It's a vigorous deciduous tree that responds well to pruning, so it's easy to keep compact - well suited to smaller gardens or a large container.
