MAX485 RS-485 Transceiver IC Add a differential serial link to your own circuit with this single MAX485 through-hole IC. It contains one driver and one receiver for half-duplex RS-485/RS-422 communication. This is the bare chip, not a ready-wired module or USB converter. Supply: 5 V (4.75–5.25 V operating range) Data rate: up to 2.5 Mb/s at the IC; practical bus speed depends on cable and layout Bus load: standard 1-unit-load receiver; up to 32 unit-load nodes on an RS-485 bus Package: 8-pin through-hole DIP, suitable for sockets and prototype boards Protection: driver current limiting and thermal shutdown; open-circuit receiver fail-safe output Pin functions (top view, notch at top) Pin Signal Function 1 RO Receiver output 2 /RE Receiver enable, active low 3 DE Driver enable, active high 4 DI Driver input 5 GND Ground 6 A Non-inverting bus line 7 B Inverting bus line 8 VCC 5 V supply Connection notes Power the IC from a regulated 5 V supply.
