Within this lab, we are experimenting with different knitting techniques with the aim of creating breathable textiles that respond to the body’s activity. Using solution-dyed nylon yarns on Shima machines with an 18-gauge fineness, we developed knitted panels that are then cut and sewn using three-needle flatlock seams. The knit edges at the hem and hood are also fully knitted. The Stargate Fleece uses a specific construction: a densely knitted outer surface to prevent yarn snagging, and floating yarns on the inside that trap air, creating warmth around the body.The garment is designed to be worn post-activity or during low-intensity activities and features: a hood with elastic binding, extended sleeves to protect the hands, and an elasticated hem designed not to interfere with access to pockets.
