This Grüner Veltliner strikes a wonderful balance between the two soil types of the Sauberg wineyard, with the minerality and structure from the gravel mixing with the spice and complexity from the clay. Firm but juicy, with a fine veil of spice and an incredible complexity, it presents as almost salty in the glass. Perfect for pairing with Thai or other Southeastern Asian cuisine. 92/100 - From old vines on a plateau, the 2023 Ried Sauberg Grüner Veltliner Reserve opens with an intense, aromatic and slightly smoky bouquet that represents ripe fruit from saline loess-loam soils. Fine and savory on the palate, this is a full-bodied and crystalline structured Grüner with intense, round and charmingly intense fruit and a long, saline, creamy and finely savory finish. This is not as tensioned and dramatic as the Hermannschachern yet for many consumers surely the favorite of the two. 13% stated alcohol. Screw-cap closure. Tasted in June 2025. - Stephen Reinhardt, Wine Advocate 92-94/100 - The 2023 Grüner Veltliner Ried Sauberg is the plateau behind Bürsting, on dense loess loam, fermented half in used 500-liter barrels and half in stainless steel. Subtle yeast on the nose carries gentle lemon, only giving a glimpse of the salty yeastiness. The palate is rounded, smooth, bright and superbly juicy, with pear juice and a touch of Mirabelle plum highlighting that slaty, yeasty vibe. (Bone-dry) - Anne Krebiehl MW, Vinous 17+/20 - Nose still developing but on the palate is the full gamut of varietal flavours taking in gherkins and white pepper leading to a real peacock's tail on the finish.
