Saint Benedict is a spiritual defender of the faithful, the patron of exorcists and of a good death. He is a constant and powerful ally against the adversaries from the lower spheres and their insidious effects on our lives. The Saint Benedict medal is a trustworthy exorcist's weapon, serving as both a shield and a sword against infernal adversaries, whether within oneself or in another who is being tormented. It is traditionally carried for opening doors and opening difficult paths. Tradition holds that it protects from curses, evil and vice, protects against diseases, and protects good health. In a monastery manuscript written in 1415, Saint Benedict is depicted holding a staff ending in a cross and a scroll. The staff and scroll bear the words whose mysterious initials became the Latin prayer of exorcism against Satan: Vade retro satana - “Step back, Satan.” The reverse of the medal carries the cross and this formula, while the front bears Benedict with the poisoned cup and raven from the stories of the attempts on his life.
