Because this collar slips over the head, you need two measurements: with your dog standing on all fours, wrap a soft tape measure snugly around the neck, then measure around the widest part of the head at the ears. The collar must open wide enough to pass over the head and close snugly enough on the neck. The collar sits loose around the neck when your dog is relaxed, and the chain loop draws it closed only when the leash is under tension, stopping at a set point.
