Le Petit Mouton de Mouton Rothschild 2022

Chateau Mouton Rothschild is one of Bordeaux's legendary First growths, and the only one to be classified in the 20th century. Their Pauillac estate is located on the famous Plateau de Mouton, where deep gravels soils lend a unique graphite aroma and an incredible structure to the wines produced there. Mouton also has a long tradition of meticulous vineyard selection, and technological innovation. 2022 was an exceptionally hot and dry vintage in Bordeaux, with abundant sunshine and very little rainfall which led to small richly concentrated fruit. Composed of 71% Cabernet Sauvignon, 19% Merlot, 7% Cab Franc, and 3% Petit Verdot Following harvest, careful sorting employing optical sorters (Machinery which employs infrared light to "read" each individual grape and then rejects those not meeting criteria), the wine is fermented and then matured in 60% new French oak barrels. The nose is deep and immediately Pauillac, with the classic cassis, black cherry, alongside graphite, vanilla, and dark chocolate. On the palate, the wine is fleshy and intense, the texture is creamy and has a strong tannic backbone that will shine when paired with fatty leg of lamb, or ribeye steak.
