S-Model 1/72 German Panzer I Ausf.B DAK Afrika Korps PS720097 WWII North Africa Light Tank Quick Build Plastic Model Kit – 2 Tanks per Box NZ Stock

• 1/72 scale German Pz.Kpfw.I Ausf.B DAK plastic model kit by S-Model (Kit No. PS720097) • Includes 2 quick-build Panzer I Ausf.B tank kits per box, ideal for WWII North African Campaign dioramas and German armour collections • Represents the Panzerkampfwagen I Ausführung B (Sd.Kfz.101), an early German light tank associated with the Deutsches Afrikakorps (DAK) • The Deutsches Afrikakorps, commonly known as the Afrika Korps, served in North Africa during World War II • The Panzer I was one of Germany's first mass-produced tanks and played an important role in the early development of the German Panzer forces • Originally developed during the 1930s primarily for armoured warfare training and crew familiarisation • The Ausf.B introduced significant improvements over the earlier Panzer I Ausf.A, including a more powerful engine and an extended chassis • Features the distinctive compact hull, small machine-gun turret and early German light tank silhouette • Armed with two 7.92mm MG 13 machine guns mounted in the turret • Designed primarily for training, reconnaissance and light combat duties rather than engaging heavily armoured enemy tanks • Powered by a Maybach NL 38 TR six-cylinder petrol engine, producing approximately 100 horsepower • The original Panzer I Ausf.B weighed approximately 5.8 tonnes • Capable of reaching road speeds of approximately 40 km/h under suitable conditions • Operated by a two-man crew, consisting of a driver and commander/gunner • The Ausf.B featured a longer hull and an additional road wheel compared with the earlier Ausf.A • Protected by relatively thin armour, reflecting its origins as a training and light combat vehicle • The Panzer I family saw combat during the Spanish Civil War, Invasion of Poland and Battle of France • By the beginning of the North African Campaign, the Panzer I was increasingly obsolete as a frontline fighting vehicle • Small numbers of Panzer I tanks were nevertheless associated with German operations in North Africa • The harsh desert environment presented significant challenges for German armoured vehicles, including dust, heat, sand and demanding maintenance conditions • The Panzer I's limited armour protection and machine-gun armament made it vulnerable to more modern Allied tanks and anti-tank weapons • As more capable German tanks became available, Panzer I vehicles were increasingly relegated to secondary and support roles • The Panzer I Ausf.B remains an important example of early German tank engineering and pre-war armoured vehicle development • The DAK version provides an appealing subject for enthusiasts of WWII desert warfare and Afrika Korps vehicles • Quick-build construction offers a simpler assembly experience than highly complex multi-part armour kits • Two tanks included, allowing modellers to create a small Afrika Korps armoured unit or separate desert battlefield scenes • 1/72 scale provides a compact display size, ideal for military dioramas, tabletop displays and small-scale armour collections • Excellent for collectors of WWII German tanks, Panzer I variants, Afrika Korps vehicles and North African Campaign armour • Excellent companion to Panzer II, Panzer III, Panzer IV, Sd.Kfz.222 and other German DAK military vehicles • Suitable for North African desert outposts, German armoured patrols, reconnaissance units and early-war military dioramas • Offers excellent opportunities for historically inspired Afrika Korps desert camouflage, including RAL 8000 Gelbbraun and RAL 7008 Graugrün where appropriate to the chosen vehicle and period • Ideal for realistic desert dust, sand accumulation, faded paint, chipped surfaces, track wear and operational weathering • The compact turret and extended Ausf.B chassis make this an interesting comparison with the earlier Panzer I Ausf.A • The two-kit format is ideal for building matching DAK vehicles or experimenting with different desert painting and weathering techniques • A distinctive addition to any collection of German WWII light tanks, desert warfare vehicles and early Panzer development • Box contains 2 unassembled Panzer I Ausf.B DAK plastic model tanks • Kits supplied unpainted and unassembled • Glue and paint not included • Recommended for modellers aged 14+
