LEGACY This is a Legacy Class which means if you sign up for it you have lifetime access and can join in anytime I offer it online in the future (for free). This is to ensure you get best value and to build and maintain your connections between my online knitting community. To join in a future class, please contact me when you see one promoted in my email newsletter. COCKLESHAWL Welcome to my Cockleshawl Class. This class is for you if you’d like to learn how to knit the cockleshell motif and learn how to knit a cockleshell scarf and cockleshawl. WHAT WILL I LEARN? You will learn to knit the cockleshell motif. This is tricky to learn but addictive once you master it! You’ll learn how to read the chart for this motif, written instructions are also included. You will learn the Shetland Lace cast on technique, how to perform a double yarn over, how to knit that yarn overs in the following row, how to wrap stitches, how to take 15 together and how to increase in different directions. You’ll learn how to join in new colours and techniques for joining the 2 sides of your scarf or shawl. WHAT WILL I GAIN? You'll gain patterns, knowledge and skills necessary to master cockleshell and add it to your knitting skill set. You’ll receive a pdf pattern for a traditional cockleshell scarf and for the Cockleshawl in four colour ways. You'll also have the company of other knitters during the class. HOW WILL I BE TAUGHT? We will meet online through Zoom in one 6 hour session (with breaks). I have found this is the most effective way to learn and practice this particular motif. You will be taken through the cockleshell row by row and will see short prerecorded video clips to illustrate each one. I am live on zoom so you can ask me questions directly. WHAT LEVEL IS THIS COURSE SUITABLE FOR? This class is for you if you can already cast on and off and knit comfortably. The technique is easy to learn but is unusual so the online support will help you learn it easily. WHAT IF I MISS THE CLASS? The class will be recorded and you'll have access to the recording for a year after you are sent the link. WHAT IF I GET STUCK? You'll receive the help you need to learn the motif. I have many years of experience teaching knitting in person and online and endless patience. I have a ‘no knitter left behind’ policy and will work with you until you succeed. I have 100% success record in teaching this motif! WHAT MATERIALS DO I NEED? To take part in the class you’ll need lace weight or 4ply weight yarn in 2 colours. To complete your Cockleshawl you’ll need Jamieson of Shetland Ultra lace weight yarn or equivalent. Exact colours and quantities will be sent in advance and included in the patterns. WHAT EQUIPMENT DO I NEED? For the class you'll need needles to knit flat in US 3 (3.25mm) and 1 stitch holder or spare needle to hold 50 stitches. WHEN WILL THE CLASS RUN? This class will be run on Wednesday 28th Oct 2026 from 4pm - 10pm UTC ANYTHING OTHER BENEFITS? You will be invited to join my private knit a long Facebook Group where you can discuss your project, ask questions and share images. This is a Legacy Course so if you take the course once you can choose to be invited as a guest when you see it running online again. WHAT COMES NEXT? I have a large range of other online classes and courses that can be scheduled for you as a group. FEEDBACK: "I had tried cockleshell patterns before but with no success. I joined Helen's class and learned it at last! I completed my Cockleshawl, won a prize for it at a local show. I've already made another one in different colours and have another on the needles! 5 stars!" Ingrid Williamson “Helen’s classes are always good!” Amy Detjen “I so enjoyed your class today!” Sandy Demaster ANY OTHER QUESTIONS Please email me at info@helenrobertson.com I look forward to meeting you online!
