Echeveria longissima var. brachyantha (San Mateo Penasco, Oaxaca, Mexico) SEEDS

Echeveria longissima var. brachyantha seeds produce a rare high-altitude form of the long-leaved Echeveria from the Mixteca Alta of Oaxaca, Mexico. Like the typical species it forms a compact, short-stemmed succulent rosette of fleshy green leaves, often edged in red and colouring more intensely under strong light. This seed lot comes from the locality of San Mateo Penasco, Oaxaca.Described in 2015 by Jerónimo Reyes Santiago, Christian Brachet and Omar González Zorzano in the journal Haseltonia as Echeveria longissima subsp. brachyantha, this taxon belongs to series Longistylae. It differs from var. longissima and var. aztatlensis mainly in its shorter corolla — the feature behind the epithet brachyantha, "short-flowered" — together with shorter pedicels and longer stems. It grows above 2,500 m of elevation, to the south of the known localities of the other two taxa. In spring the species carries leafy flower stalks with urn-shaped orange flowers tipped in green. Short-stemmed rosette of fleshy green leaves with reddish margins Shorter flowers, short pedicels and longer stems than the typical species High-altitude taxon from above 2,500 m in the Mixteca Alta, Oaxaca Seed of known locality: San Mateo Penasco, Oaxaca, Mexico Rare in cultivation and prized by Echeveria collectors Sow the fine seed uncovered on the surface of a gritty, free-draining mix and keep it bright, humid and warm (about 18-24 °C); germination usually takes one to three months. Ventilate gradually, water seedlings sparingly from below and never let water sit in the rosette. Grown in full sun to light shade with good air movement and a dry, frost-free winter rest, Echeveria longissima var. brachyantha makes a choice addition to any collection of Mexican succulents. IMPORTANT: Pictures show the adult plant, which is not for sale. The offer is only for seeds.
