Utricularia livida (Bladderwort)

Utricularia livida, commonly known as the leaden bladderwort, is a small terrestrial carnivorous plant that forms a low carpet of green foliage. Delicate lavender and white flowers rise above the mat, while tiny bladder traps beneath the surface capture microscopic organisms in the wet growing medium. Growing guide Light: Provide bright light or a suitable grow light. Gradually acclimatise newly deflasked plants before exposing them to stronger sunlight. Water: Use rainwater, distilled or reverse-osmosis water. Keep the medium consistently moist, with established pots standing in a shallow tray of water during active growth. Soil: Use an unfertilised carnivorous-plant mix, such as equal parts sphagnum peat and washed silica sand, or suitable sphagnum moss. Feeding: The underground traps catch tiny organisms in the growing medium. Avoid fertilised potting mixes and adding insect food to the Gel Cup. Seasonal care: Grow in a humid, frost-free position. If growth slows in cooler weather, reduce standing water while keeping the medium damp. Maintenance: Remove spent flower stalks and divide established mats when they become crowded, replanting into fresh medium.
