Lincoln Kirstein, 1907–1996

We know this Lincoln Kirstein memorial program is a weird little item for this place, but it’s here for two reasons. First, it is a model of typographic and printing excellence. It’s been nicely set in Dante and the portraits by George Platt Lynes and William Vasillov (both notable figures in the worlds of dance, theater, and performing arts photography) printed as duotones. They look much better than our rubbish pics suggest. And, second, in a few days we’ll be hosting a talk about Edward Gorey—and Gorey was a rabid fan of the New York City Ballet (which Kirstein founded and ran). These two were friends and collaborators.
