Group swing mounted Alfred Bearsley was born on 18 December 1896 in Banbury, Oxfordshire to John Henry Bearsley and Emma Jane Heath Bearsley. From the age of 14, Bearsley worked as an errand boy for a local chemist before then working as an administrative assistant for the Police. His MIC and medal rolls confirm 1/4th and 2/4th Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire L.I. with service numbers 2123 and 2000363. He then enlisted into the 4th Battalion, Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire Light Infantry and disembarked onto the Western Front on 28 June 1915. The following year he saw action at the Battle of the Somme. Later, in the thirties, the regiment served in Maymo in Upper Burma and saw further service at Rangoon. By 1935, Bearsley was serving with the 2nd Battalion and in the Second World War he served at home. Jubilee confirmed on roll, with service no 5374103 (as on his I.G.S.) On 7 January 1975 Bearsley died at Banbury. With a photograph of the Sergeants on B Company in 1926, which identifies Bearsley. Condition VF
