One of his associated companies manufactured the first transatlantic cable, laid by Brunel's S.S. The Great Eastern, skippered by Wicklow Man Captain Robert Halpin. Ross says: It is always a delight to walk around Wicklow Harbour. I have been intrigued by the composition of these building for some time, so decided to make then the subject of a painting. I took a series of photo's from the new floating pontoon and my composition is based on these. Plus an element of artistic licence as is my wont!
