Chicago Cats Vintage Soccer Goalie Jersey
COLLARED LONG SLEEVE GOALIE JERSEY HONORING THE CHICAGO CATS History: The Chicago Cats' two-season run in the American Soccer League ended in what their owner called "a veritable Watergate of soccer." Their beginning was rocky, too: local dentist Ernest Panos announced the club on April 10, 1975 and sixteen days later they played their first match at an AstroTurfed high school football field in Belmont Cragin — about as thrown-together as a professional sports franchise gets. They logged zero wins in 1975, went a respectable 10-8-3 in 1976, then unraveled when ASL commissioner Bob Cousy — yes, Hall of Fame Celtics point guard Bob Cousy — awarded their playoff spot to Cleveland despite Chicago holding the tiebreakers. Panos sued for $1 million. The league terminated the franchise that October. Designed after the Cats goalkeeper uniform from the '76 season, this collared long-sleeve jersey is made from a heavyweight 100% cotton jersey with an embroidered chest patch and the number and lettering applied with soft velour print.
