Verbena 'Homestead Purple'
Verbena canadensis 'Homestead Purple' This perennial is a vigorous grower with large dark purple flower clusters atop trailing stems of dark green foliage. Expect blooms over a long period of time from spring through to late summer and even into fall. Plant in full sun with average to dry, well-drained soils. A low maintenance plant, this tender perennial is hardy to zone 6 (evergreen in zones 7-10), but will need a good winter mulch. Drought, heat, poor & rocky soil tolerant, 'Homestead Purple' can spread up to 3 feet wide on creeping stems. Butterflies and other pollinators are attracted to the slightly fragrant flowers. Perfect to plant towards the front of sunny borders to add a pop of color or as a groundcover when mass planted. An excellent choice for containers and hanging baskets as well. Companions in the garden include Daylilies, Rudbeckia and Mexican Feather Grass. Arrives to you in a quart-sized pot.
