The Panton Chair is one of the most important furniture designs of the 20th century. With its continuous S-shape, cantilevered construction, and consistent reduction to a single line, it marks a turning point in the history of furniture design. These two examples date from 1972 and thus belong to the third production run. They were made of dyed-through thermoplastic polystyrene and can be clearly identified by the characteristic grooves below the bend between the seat and the base. During this phase, the design was first implemented industrially on a larger scale and distributed internationally. The vibrant orange hue underscores the sculptural character of the design and reflects the original color palette with which Verner Panton deliberately created atmosphere and tension in a space. As a single piece, the Panton Chair resembles a three-dimensional object; as a pair, it unfolds a particularly strong spatial presence. A design classic with a clear historical context, equally collectible and timelessly usable.
