Hozan Kiln: Ibushi Shiboridashi
Shigaraki-yaki Shiboridashi from master potter Sawa Hozan This beautiful Shiboridahsi teapot is the perfect size for high quality sencha, gyokuro and other shaded green teas. Created with local clay by second generation master potter Sawa Hozan of the Hozan kiln in Koka City, Shigaraki prefecture. The outside has a tactile rough texture in a dark grey brown clay. The inner walls of the vessel are covered with a pale blue, eggshell glaze. Each piece is individually thrown so they all differ slightly. The markings on the outside also vary depending on where they sit within the kiln. It is counted as one of the six oldest kilns in Japan and is said to have a long history of 1,260 years. It was designated as a traditional craft by the national government in 1976.
