Have you sat in awe when watching a maker cut open a cane to reveal its contents wondering how on earth did they make that? Would you believe it when I said that making a cane is not as hard as it looks and can be so much fun? Come and spend the day with Siobhan and learn the skills and build confidence to take that first step in starting your journey into polymer clay cane building. In this workshop, Siobhan will go right back to basics where you will firstly learn how to make a jelly roll cane, a stripe cane, a skinner blend and an Asterix (*) cane. In the second part of this workshop we will then piece these components together with our background clay to create the start of a kaleidoscope cane and watch how our kaleidoscope cane evolves as we reduce it, divide it up and reduce it again. We will take before and after pics of the cane process for comparison and to assist in understanding how clay behaves, learn techniques in reduction methods, how to avoid distortion of our clay pictures and many other tips and tricks that Siobhan has learnt from years of trial and error. This is a primarily a technique class. You will come away with a finished kaleidoscope cane to then use at home and valuable skills to practice more cane building at home. Photos are examples only. Colour and design is up to each individual student. Date & Time: Sunday 18th October 10.00am to 4.30pm The studio will be open from 9.45am. Please arrive by 10.00am so that you don’t miss any important information and can choose your clay colours if required. We recommend you consider your colour choices prior to the beginning of the workshop so you can start on time. Siobhan will be on hand to help if needed. We provide a friendly, inviting space and cater for many challenges you may face (health issues, food intolerances, anxiety, etc, etc.). Many of our students (and some of our tutors) suffer from chronic illness and have special needs. If you have any concerns, please feel free to reach out to Dani who will do her best to help you out; We use only high quality materials/products in our workshops and myself and our Tutors are familiar with how these work and can give you accurate information/answers to your questions; Students are able to browse our 1500+ products and purchase if they wish to either before, during or after their workshop; We offer payment plan options on most workshops as we understand that finances can be tight (please email if you’d like to take advantage of this); We are fully insured and there is always someone on site who has a Level 2 first aid qualification and asthma management training. All tutors who are working with children have current, valid Working with Children Checks. We offer ‘after workshop’ support for all our students. Students can ask questions of our tutors and refresh any information they need to after the workshop via email, phone or in our Facebook group especially for students.
