Claude Debussy (1862-1918) was a prominent French composer, known for his impressionist music. He was a very talented pianist, and wrote prolifically for that instrument. He also wrote works for chamber ensembles, an opera, and works for orchestra, including his well known "La Mer". His "Clair de lune" is one of the most celebrated and recognizable masterpieces in classical music history. Translated from French as "moonlight," it is famous for its ethereal, shimmering, and dreamy quality.
